How to Beat Procrastination

How to Beat Procrastination

Procrastination means to delay taking an action, to wait until later or to put off.

Procrastination comes in many disguises and the funny thing about procrastination is that we all know that it's dangerous and harmful. Who actually likes procrastinating? No one enjoys doing that but you still find yourself doing it.

At times you might find yourself staring at your phone or laptop, mindlessly checking the social media and making use of the internet when you're supposed to be doing something else. The funniest part of it is that you might jot your tasks for the day and end up not attending to any by the end of the day.

Here are some top tips to beat and crush procrastination.

1. Get rid of distractions

Firstly, you need to get rid of all distractions before you begin your task. If you tend to spend too much time on Instagram and Snapchat when you should be studying then switch your phone off. Distractions can be internal or external, get yourself a quiet place where you can clear your mind and study distraction free.

2. Set a deadline

So many people get trapped in the cycle of "someday I'll organize my notes" or I'll get that assignment done eventually. The truth is that eventually and someday never comes. It's important to set a date for when you want your goals to be accomplished. If you have an assignment, aim to have it completed in one or two days advance, that way if something unexpected happens, you still have extra time to complete it.

3. Get the hard stuff done first

It's hard to do something you don't like or want to do but once you do it, that's the end, it's over. It's better to complete your most challenging assignments or projects first. After that, everything after that seems easier and takes a shorter amount of time. It's best to buckle down and just do it than procrastinating
